5 Essential gadgets for hybrid work

A hybrid work setup enables employees to work remotely or from the office. This flexibility allows employees to plan their work schedule according to their needs, helping them stay motivated and productive. A hybrid work setup also allows companies to reduce costs by adopting a hot desk model, where staff occupy available desks instead of having an allotted seat. This enables them to reduce space and thereby save on rent costs.

To ensure that your California business enjoys the full benefits of a hybrid work setup, equip your employees with the following devices:

1. Laptops

Laptops are portable and can run on batteries for several hours. Modern laptops are also powerful enough to handle many tasks that used to require the processing power of desktop computers.

When choosing a laptop for hybrid work, you need to consider the type of work you and your employees do. For instance, if you do plenty of video editing or other resource-intensive tasks, you need a laptop that has a high-end processor and a powerful graphics card. But for most office workers, a laptop with at least 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB solid-state drive (SSD) should suffice.

2. Portable monitor

Laptops generally have limited screen space, making it difficult to view detailed spreadsheets or graphic designs. You can get a larger, higher-resolution display by connecting your laptop to a portable monitor. Portable monitors also make it easier to multitask, so you can have a project timeline on one screen and a Zoom meeting on the other.

Computer monitors vary in size, so be sure to pick one that’s large enough for your needs but is still easy to transport.

3. Webcams and headsets

Most communication in the workplace these days happens over video calls, so it’s important to invest in the right equipment.

While most laptops have built-in cameras, their image quality might not be optimal for video calls. Even if you add more lights, a laptop camera may still produce grainy video. Therefore, invest in an external webcam with better image quality. Alternatively, you can use a digital camera or smartphone that has high-quality video call capabilities.

Audio is also important during your meetings. A laptop’s built-in microphone might not be able to pick up your voice properly, resulting in unclear or choppy audio. Using a headset with a noise-canceling microphone will help your colleagues or clients hear you loud and clear even if you’re in a noisy environment.

4. Docking station

A docking station is a device that allows you to quickly connect and disconnect your laptop from peripherals using a single cable.

Docking stations are useful especially if you’re constantly switching between working from home and the office. You can leave your peripherals (e.g., mouse, keyboard) plugged into the docking station, so you don’t have to unplug and replug them every time you want to use them.

5. External storage devices

External storage devices make it easy to back up your work documents and take them with you wherever you choose to work. Two of the most common types of external storage devices are hard disk drives (HDDs) and SSDs. HDDs are cheaper and have a larger storage capacity than SSDs, but they tend to be slower. SSDs, meanwhile, are more expensive but offer faster data transfer speeds.

However, don’t rely solely on external storage devices as they are susceptible to backup failure. Instead, store your files in more reliable storage mediums like the cloud. Because of the cloud’s geo-redundant features, data will be saved on multiple servers in different locations around the world, so you can be sure that your data is always safe and accessible.

Aside from these gadgets, you also need a partner like Complete Document Solutions to help you implement a hybrid work setup. We will optimize your IT infrastructure so your employees can be productive and efficient wherever they choose to work. Drop us a line to learn more.
